ASK MR. MICROPHONE

Q. Aren't you embarrassed using the moniker, "Mr. Microphone?"
A.

"Hey! Good lookin' -- we'll be back to pick you up later!"

Q. What kinds of mics and shells do you offer?
A. Astatic JT30 (original vintage with serial plates); DN series; HZ50; W48; T-3; Shure 520, 440, 545L; Shure vocal; 55, 55S, 55SW (reissue), 51; Turner 200's, 33D, 22D and Challenger models (BX, CD, etc.)

Q What else?
A. You name it.

Q. How long does it take you to build a DJ's Custom?
A. I guarantee to take more than an hour to build your mic -- or it's free!

Q. No, really.
A. Really! Most are completed in two weeks. All chrome or air brushed special orders are normally two weeks or less depending on previously chromed stock availability.

Q. Howsabout repairs?
A. "Working" players supersede custom work with a turn around time of 24 to 48 hours. I have a good stock of vintage grilles, cloths, connectors, elements, etc. I will "next morning / day" air freight if necessary.

Q. What about finishes?
A. I usually finish last. I can, however, offer finishes in solids, metal flake, phosphorus, blacklight, flames, dapples, air brushed, and chrome.

Q. Any guarantees?
A. If it is one of my custom builds, I'll guarantee everything but the element as long as you own the mic.

Q. What about gravity?
A. Gravity is definitely a force to be reckoned with. I cannot guarantee a mic that has been "gravity tested."

Q. Is the paint guy really a scratch and dent man?
A. He's been known to scratch some -- but what guy hasn't? Painter Jake is actually an artist but did work in a body shop as a painter for a while.

Q. Is everything Painter Jake does by special order?
A. No. I've given him shells and told him to "go for it." His "inspired" paint jobs are really "out there" but totally cool. I think it was the petroleum distillates.

Q. Is he the only painter?
A. No. Russ is the other professional who does the metal flakes, pearls, and solid automotive finishes. All paints and logos are triple clear-coated.

Q. Do you have any musical experience?
A. Nah. I've been fakin' it on the Mississippi saxophone for 27 years, the guitar for 20 years, the trumpet for 42 years, and singing to my granddaughter for two years. She can talk now and asked me to stop.

Q. Do you have a motto?
A. No, I had it surgically removed.

Q. Oh, please --
A. Okay. "Buy it or not, I have a day job."

Q. What's most important to your business?
A. My wife and my reputation. (Please don't ask her any reputation questions.)

Q. What's this I hear about your Custom Turners and why no pics?
A. How did you hear about them? That's secret stuff!

Q. Do you stand behind your mics?
A. Doesn't everyone? I will also stand in front of or slightly to the side of my mics, which ever is preferred, 'cause I work for you!

Q. Can you be contacted?
A. Yes, I can be contracted and even contradicted. Call or
e-mail anytime 8:00 am-9:00 pm CST.

Q. How old are you?
A. Not too odd. How odd are you?
